While the reviewers did bring up some concerns about the paper, the authors' responses are correct in that: 1) it is important to introduce soil scientists to the possibilities that revolve around combining soils with economics, and starting that process involves introducing economics at a more basic level than if this paper were written for economists or agricultural economists, and 2) the authors were invited to cover a broad topic within the word limits of a review paper. It is my opinion that they did a good job of achieving that. In addition, the authors have made good improvements in several places based on reviewer comments that strengthen the over-all paper.
